I know! It has been some time since my last post but I thought today would be a great date to restart blogging again.

Today is actually 3 years ago that I started this blog, and a lot has changed. I can remember how totally obsessed I was with making bento during the first months, I bought loads and loads of bento stuff and spent so much time creating them. Since then my focus has shifted, I discovered cake decorating and a lot of my free time was taken up with that instead of making dosirak/bento. So sometimes I blogged about my cakes instead. Or took some time of blogging because I felt uninspired, my lunches were boring or life got in the way.

Anyway, 3 years later, I’m still there and although I don’t want to make any promises about how often I will blog or how active I will be be, but it’s good to be back again. I would also like to thank again all my readers, followers and people who comment. It always surprises me that even when I don’t have anything new to show, my blog is still being seen and liked.

So this Valentine Day inspired dosirakbento today is to show my love for all of of you! πŸ™‚

In the box at the back, there is some pink sushi rice, which I tried to shape in a heart but not totally successful…, with heart shaped vegetables. The box in the front has some Korean meatballs, and more of the pink rice and heart shaped veggies. And I love how the beet slices are bleeding a bit onto the radish, this was not planned, but it does look very pretty!

The Korean meatballs are my own invention, I used some beef mince and mixed that with Gochujang, soy sauce, garlic and sesame oil before shaping that into small meatballs and frying. They are great to pack into boxes and freeze well, so I made a batch to use in the coming weeks.

Lovebirds bento

Lovebirds-egg-bentoWe went to a wedding last weekend, which inspired me to make this Lovebirds BentoΒ β™₯

Initially, I wasΒ thinking ofΒ shapingΒ a bride and groom from onigiri, but not sure if I would have enough time in the morning, so instead I createdΒ the lovebirds with an hard boiled egg. With the help of some pre-frozen rice and salmon, and boiling the egg the evening before, it still took me 25 minutes to pack. The most time was spent at adding the smaller details, like the eyes and red flowers.

The lovebirds are made from an boiled egg, halved, with a carrot beak, and they are perched on some asparagus branches. The baby corn wings are attached with a small bit of cocktail stick. Eyes punched out from nori. One bird, the male, is offering the female bird some red flowers >*<.

The other container is filled with some salmon, baby corn, radishes, asparagus, carrot hearts, heart shaped strawberries and of course I added a heart shaped food stick. Lots of love happening!

The tiny container in front has some cookies, to add more sweetness to this love story :-), and I choose to pack this bento in my flower cloud box to sort of extra symbolise the happy “cloud” the married couple are experiencing….

This morning I had a little bit more time than usual as I was leaving for the office slightly later (will be staying longer as I have an appointment after work), so I spent a bit more time on creating this ‘boy loves girl’ bento.

What do you think, does she love him back?

The boy and girl are made of onigiri, decorated with nori (eyes, mouth, hair boy), black sesame seeds (eye lashes girl), egg sheet (hair girl) and carrot (cheeks girl). Some of the inspiration for this bento came from the Yum Yum bento book I won.

I had boiled the egg yesterday and put it into a heart shaped egg mold overnight, but I think I needed a larger egg…oh well, it sort of vaguely has a heart shape and I added the nori details and carrot heart as a sort of ‘love declaration’ (the boy gives his heart to the girl). These two nori punchers are actually paper punches, I bought them some time ago at Tiger, for Β£1 each!

The rest of the bento is filled with various veggies (broccoli, cucumber, carrot and tomato) and a sweet potato falafel (the dark round shape in the bottom of the container).

Oh, and I added one heart shaped pasta shape….maybe the girl is giving her heart to the boy???
